Roberto Manzueta vs. Andres Guevara - Round #4 Tennis League Match
Roberto Manzueta reported the following observations after his match with Andres Guevara:
"Andres was relentless today, I couldn't believe it. I also missed some really easy volleys at the net that would have put me two breaks up on the second set (I was up one break). But he just kept going for shots and playing well. I just couldn't believe it. I was down a break in the third set too. Needless to say I was frustrated. But I was able to put all of it behind me and do what I needed to win in the end. This match lasted 3 hrs. It was a good match, bunch of crazy shots and good play and some sloppy play from me at times which is what made the match as long as it was. I hope next times I play I can keep the screws on tight, but if it doesn't happen at least I know I still have a good chance to win in the end. I actually started serving harder in the last half of the third set, and being really aggresive, letting out all my frustration thankfully in a good way. Ok good night and thanks."

Eduardo Noriega vs. Daniel Friedman - Wednesday, October 5th
Eduardo Noriega played Daniel Friedman in a tennis league match at West Wind Park. These are Eduardo's comments after the match:
I beat Daniel 6/1 4/6 11-9. I played through exhaustion and had to draw the last ounce of stamina in my system to close the match. The kid has solid technique and a good tennis mentor in Juan. As soon as he gets more confident and experienced, he's going to start making noise in our league. He's a great addition.

Eduardo Noriega vs. Dain Harris - Round 9 Tennis League Match
Eduardo Noriega wrote the following regarding his match with Dain Harris on Sept. 7th, 2011:
I lost to Dain 6/3 7/6(6). I was up 6-2 in the tiebreaker, felt I had the match in hand and couldn't close the tiebreaker out. Can you believe that? In any case, kuddos to Dain who played a great match all throughout and who is a pleasure to play against. As per myself, I feel I played very well considering that I just came back to the courts 10 days ago, after surgery, and that the last competitive match I played was at the end of July.
It feels good to be back!

Alvaro Vasquez Match With Leandro Ramirez - Week 11
Alvaro wrote the following comments after the match:
I did not play as well as I have done before in other matches. In this season, I have had some injuries; my shoulder, my left elbow and my wrist. I am recovering little by little. Playing with Leandro I felt pain in my wrist, so I was not able to hit the ball with power. Anyway my strategy was attack him on the net.
Alvaro def Leandro 7-5,6-3

A Message to all the Weekend Warriors - by Paul Newman
Sorry if this goes a little long. Thanks to everyone who makes this league so great. I really enjoyed this past season, as it was the first time I was healthy in two years. I had 4 great matches that went to 3rd set tiebreakers, and was fortunate to win them all. Unfortunately, it all came crashing down in my semi-final match vs Andres. I injured my back, but played through it because it was the playoffs. Even though I couldn't run or turn, somehow I eeked out the 3rd set tiebreaker. The next day I couldn't move because of severe sciatic pain. I saw the doctor right away and he prescribed drugs, physical therapy, and said no more tennis for now. But this was the playoffs. After 10 days of rest, I felt better and thought I was cured. So I played with Dennis to get ready for the upcoming final. I played well, and felt good, but each day after I felt worse and worse. Now it was the day of the final vs Leandro, and I decided to play even though I knew I was in bad shape. It was the playoffs. I played great and won. Now I could focus on healing. Unfortunately, the next day and for two weeks, I could barely move my back at all, and I lost a lot of feeling in one leg. It's been almost a month, and I'm finally starting to get the feel back. The moral of the story is, if your doctor tells you to step away for the game for a while, you should listen to him, even if you have an important match coming up. All of us in this league are not as young as we once were. He said I definitely did more damage by continuing to play. I'm done for at least 3 months, possibly permanently, but let's hope not. Good luck to everyone in the upcoming season and I hope to see you soon!
